50% of Nvidia employees have a net worth over $25M, survey finds

Most companies have a few employees who got rich from stock options. Nvidia apparently has an entire workforce of them.

An internal survey conducted in June 2025 found that between 76% and 78% of Nvidia employees are millionaires, with roughly half of all staff carrying a net worth above $25 million.

The survey covered approximately 3,000 employees. With Nvidia’s total workforce sitting somewhere between 36,000 and 42,000 people, that math translates to around 18,000 individuals who have crossed the $25 million threshold, largely on the back of company stock.

How an obscure stock plan quietly minted thousands of millionaires

The mechanism behind this wealth is less glamorous than it sounds: an employee stock purchase plan, or ESPP, that lets workers buy Nvidia shares at a 15% discount to market price.

Nvidia overhauled the plan following the 2008 downturn, expanding access and improving terms for rank-and-file employees. Anyone who loaded up on shares during the post-2008 recovery and held through the AI boom of the early 2020s is now sitting on a number that most people associate with private equity partners, not GPU engineers.

The company’s stock has been one of the most consequential trades of the past decade. Nvidia reached a market capitalization of $4 trillion in July 2025, becoming the first company ever to hit that milestone. The stock rose nearly 3,800% from 2019 to its peak in mid-2025, driven by demand for Nvidia’s chips as the core infrastructure of the global AI buildout.

Jensen Huang’s hands-on approach to keeping people rich enough to stay

CEO Jensen Huang reportedly reviews all employee compensation personally. The result is a workforce that is paid competitively enough to not defect to competitors while also sitting on equity that makes the base salary feel almost beside the point.

That said, new hires joining in 2025 are entering a very different situation than someone who signed on in 2016 or 2019. The stock has already done the heavy lifting. Future gains require Nvidia to keep growing into a valuation that is, by any historical measure, extraordinary.

What this actually means for the broader tech labor market

There is also a consumer spending dimension worth considering. Eighteen thousand people with net worths above $25 million, concentrated largely in the Santa Clara area of California, represents a meaningful injection of wealth into a regional economy.

What Nvidia has demonstrated is that widespread equity participation is not just a feel-good HR policy. When the underlying company performs, it can create wealth at a scale and breadth that changes the financial lives of people several layers below the C-suite. Half the workforce above $25 million is not a rounding error. It is a case study.
