AS Roma defeats Torino 2-0 to maintain perfect Serie A start

1 hour ago 18

AS Roma made it four wins from four in Serie A this season, beating Torino 2-0 on September 14 to sit atop the Italian top flight with a perfect 12 points. Donyell Malen opened the scoring just before halftime, and Niccolò Pisilli added a stoppage-time insurance goal to seal the result.

Malen continues his remarkable run

Malen found the net in the 40th minute, continuing a stretch of form that borders on absurd. The Dutchman, on loan from Aston Villa since January 2026, has now scored five goals in just three league appearances this season.

Torino’s resilience falls short

Ignazio Abate’s Torino side showed more fight in the second 45 minutes, pushing higher up the pitch and testing Roma’s defensive resolve, but failed to create genuinely threatening chances. The home side had picked up their first win of the campaign the previous matchday, a 2-1 result against Fiorentina, but that momentum didn’t carry over against Roma.

Roma has been unbeaten in their recent meetings with Torino, particularly in away fixtures, and this result extended that run. Pisilli’s goal in the third minute of stoppage time came as Torino committed bodies forward in search of an equalizer, with the young midfielder exploiting the space left behind to make it 2-0.

Gasperini’s project takes shape

This is Gasperini’s first season in charge at Roma. Four matches in, Roma have 12 points from a possible 12, with Roma’s unbeaten record built on defensive solidity that has given Malen and the attack a consistent platform. Roma’s upcoming fixture pits them against Inter Milan.
