Aston Villa eyes €65M move for Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade

Aston Villa is targeting Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade in a potential €65M deal this summer, marking what would be a significant loss on paper for a club that paid €75M plus €5M in add-ons just one year ago.

The 24-year-old German international moved to St James’ Park from VfB Stuttgart in August 2025 in what was a record-breaking transfer.

A debut season that didn’t go to plan

Woltemade’s first campaign in the Premier League has reportedly been marked by struggle and discontent. The forward has been described as unhappy during his time at Newcastle, a development that rarely ends well for either party in football’s high-stakes ecosystem.

Newcastle’s response has been pragmatic rather than sentimental. The club has set a €65M asking price for a permanent sale, effectively accepting a minimum €10M haircut on their initial outlay before even factoring in the potential add-ons from the Stuttgart deal.

Aston Villa isn’t the only club circling. Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have also expressed interest. Both permanent transfers and loan arrangements are reportedly being discussed.

Rumors from May 2026 suggested Diego Simeone’s side had been monitoring the situation. Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, would offer a return to familiar surroundings in the Bundesliga.

Why Villa makes sense as a destination

At 24, Woltemade is entering what should be his peak years. A player who commanded a €75M fee less than a year ago is now available at €65M.

What this means for the transfer market

With multiple clubs interested and both permanent and loan structures on the table, whoever wants Woltemade will likely need to move decisively, and €65M is the starting point for that conversation.
