Barcelona facilitates loan of top star Marc Casadó to La Liga rival Deportivo A Coruña

Barcelona have sent Marc Casadó to Deportivo A Coruña on loan until June 30, 2027, complete with a €30 million option to make the deal permanent. The club is also picking up a significant chunk of his wages, which tells you everything about how crowded the midfield has become at Camp Nou.

Casadó, a 22-year-old La Masia graduate with 75 senior appearances for Barcelona, found himself at the bottom of a very deep depth chart. When your midfield options include Rodri, Pedri, Marc Bernal, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong, even a Spain international can struggle to crack the starting eleven.

A calculated exit on deadline day

The loan was finalized on the final day of the summer transfer window, around September 1-2, 2026. It came after Casadó reportedly turned down interest from Turkish clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray, choosing instead to stay in Spain where he could compete in a familiar league and maximize his development.

What Casadó brings to Deportivo

Born on September 14, 2003, Casadó made his first-team debut during the 2022-23 season. Since then, he has accumulated an impressive trophy cabinet: two La Liga titles in 2024-25 and 2025-26, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups. His raw numbers, 1 goal and 7 assists across those 75 appearances, don’t scream star power, but his contributions as a defensive midfielder were never about box-score stats.

For Deportivo A Coruña, landing a player of this caliber represents a genuine statement of intent. The Galician club is returning to La Liga after an eight-year absence, and Casadó joins a squad that already includes José María Giménez, giving Deportivo a spine that looks considerably more robust than your average promoted side.

Barcelona’s bigger picture

Letting Casadó leave on loan rather than selling him outright preserves optionality. If he thrives at Deportivo and the buy option isn’t triggered, Barcelona get back a more experienced, more confident player. If Deportivo does pay the €30 million, that’s a healthy return on an academy product whose development cost the club relatively little.
