Base ecosystem launches 25 new projects and integrations in August

1 hour ago 25

Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network built by Coinbase, shipped 25 new products and integrations in August 2026, spanning stablecoins, decentralized finance, tokenized equities, and AI-driven payment infrastructure. The update, shared on September 3, reads less like a press release and more like a catalog of what happens when a blockchain ecosystem hits cruising altitude.

The batch of launches touches nearly every corner of onchain finance. A Mexican peso-pegged stablecoin. Zero-collateral loans. Amazon Web Services plugging into a micropayment standard. Tokenized S&P 500 shares for US users.

Stablecoins, lending, and the nuts and bolts

Among the headline additions is MXNB, a stablecoin pegged to the Mexican peso and launched through Bitso, the Latin American crypto exchange. MXNB enables deposits and withdrawals on Base, giving the network a direct ramp into one of the largest remittance corridors in the world.

On the African continent side, ZARU went live as a 1:1 rand-backed stablecoin designed for rapid onchain settlements.

Then there’s Credifi, which launched unsecured loans of up to $3,000 using Ethos credibility scores rather than traditional collateral. In a DeFi world where overcollateralization is the norm (borrow $1,000, lock up $1,500), the idea of lending based on onchain reputation is genuinely novel.

AWS enters the micropayment game

Perhaps the most eyebrow-raising integration is AWS AgentCore Payments, which leverages the x402 payment standard to enable micropayments on Base. The x402 standard, named after the HTTP 402 “Payment Required” status code that has been dormant in web infrastructure for decades, allows AI agents to pay for services programmatically.

An AI agent running on AWS could pay fractions of a cent for API calls, data access, or compute resources, all settling on Base without human intervention.

Tokenized equities and real-world assets

The August crop also includes regulated S&P 500 dShares now accessible to US users, alongside growing trading volumes in tokenized stocks offered through Coinbase’s own infrastructure.

Bitwise, the crypto asset manager, appeared among the partner names in the update. Its involvement in the Base ecosystem adds institutional legitimacy to the tokenization push, particularly as traditional finance firms continue exploring blockchain-native versions of conventional investment products.

What the numbers say

Base’s total value locked now exceeds $5 billion as of August 2026. That figure places it firmly among the top Ethereum L2s by TVL, a position it has been building toward since its mainnet launch in 2023. The network was originally pitched as a low-cost transaction framework with strong developer tooling.

Transaction activity on the network has also been climbing, though the ecosystem update did not trigger any immediate price volatility in related tokens.

The monthly recap format itself has become a recurring feature of Base’s communications strategy. Each installment catalogs builder activity across payments, DeFi, and AI applications, functioning as both a progress report and a signal to developers that the ecosystem is actively expanding.
