Bayern Munich opened their 2026/27 Champions League campaign exactly the way you’d expect a club with their pedigree to open it: by making their opponents look like they wandered onto the wrong pitch. The German giants dismantled Norwegian side FK Bodo/Glimt 5-0 at the Allianz Arena on September 10, extending a streak of 24 consecutive opening-match victories in the competition dating back to 2002.
Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Michael Olise all found the net in a second half that turned a tight contest into a rout.
A first half of patience, a second half of punishment
The opening 45 minutes told a familiar story of Bayern dominance without reward. Vincent Kompany’s side controlled 65.6% of possession and peppered the Bodo/Glimt goal, but the Norwegian club held firm through the break.

Kane’s quiet confidence sets the tone
After the match, Kane struck a measured tone, describing the squad as “humble and hungry,” a phrase that carries weight given what happened last season. Bayern’s 2025/26 Champions League campaign ended in the semi-finals, and Kane made clear the squad has internalized the lessons from that exit. Under Kompany, the approach this time appears to be one of controlled ambition.
Musiala’s milestone and Olise’s emergence
Musiala’s opener deserves its own recognition. Scoring Bayern’s 900th European goal in the 47th minute, breaking through a stubborn defense, demonstrated the kind of composure that sets elite players apart.
Olise’s brace was equally noteworthy. The Frenchman’s two late goals, in the 83rd minute and in stoppage time, showed clinical finishing when the opposition was already beaten.
Davies’ goal in the 77th minute underlined Bayern’s attacking depth, with the left-back contributing to a 5-0 scoreline in the Champions League.
What this means for Bayern’s Champions League campaign
Kane, Musiala, Olise, and Davies all scored from different positions and in different phases of the game. At 55 career goals in 71 Champions League appearances, Kane’s record in this competition sits comfortably among the best in history, and his eight-match scoring streak puts him in early contention for the tournament’s golden boot.
Bayern’s 24-match opening-day winning streak means they have not lost a Champions League opener since 2002. No other club in Champions League history can match that consistency over the first matchday.
