Binance founder Changpeng Zhao announces philanthropic initiative

1 hour ago 11

Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance and one of crypto’s most recognizable figures, is set to unveil a new philanthropic project during an interview scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. ET.

CZ has committed to donating between 90% and 99% of his wealth, a pledge that places him in the same philosophical orbit as Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.

A growing portfolio of giving

In June 2025, he donated $10 million worth of BNB to support open-source biotech projects associated with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

Earlier, in April 2025, he directed $1.5 million through Binance Charity to earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar and Thailand.

CZ’s 2026 memoir, Freedom of Money: A Memoir of Protecting Users, Resilience, and the Founding of Binance, has all of its royalties earmarked for Giggle Academy, his non-profit education initiative.

Giggle Academy and the education bet

Giggle Academy aims to provide free educational resources to children around the world, targeting communities that lack access to quality schooling. CZ launched the initiative before 2026.

CZ stepped down as Binance CEO in late 2023 as part of a settlement with US authorities, which included a guilty plea to federal charges related to money laundering violations. He served a four-month prison sentence and has since redirected his public focus toward ventures like Giggle Academy and YZi Labs.

CZ has also pledged that all consulting income from selected activities will be dedicated to charitable efforts.
