Carlo Ancelotti isn’t going anywhere. The Italian manager, who took over Brazil’s national team in May 2025 after his storied tenure at Real Madrid, has agreed to a contract extension that keeps him at the helm through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
What happened
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced the extension on May 14, 2026, turning what was originally a deal through the 2026 tournament into a four-year commitment stretching to 2030.
Ancelotti himself put it simply.
“We will go together until the 2030 World Cup.”
CBF president Samir Xaud called the extension a “crucial historic moment” for the federation. Brazil, the only nation to win five World Cup titles, has been chasing a sixth since 2002.
The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will be the first expanded tournament featuring 48 teams instead of the traditional 32.
The fan token angle
The Brazil National Football Team Fan Token, known as BFT, saw a reported jump of 34% following news related to the team’s World Cup preparations.
FIFA’s blockchain bet
FIFA itself has been building out blockchain infrastructure through its FIFA Collect platform, which runs on Avalanche-powered technology. The platform facilitates digital collectibles and ticketing. The 2026 tournament will serve as the biggest stress test yet for these systems, with 48 teams generating far more content, tickets, and engagement opportunities than any previous World Cup.
What this means for investors
The 34% spike tied to positive team news demonstrates how quickly these assets can move on non-financial catalysts. These tokens are highly illiquid compared to major crypto assets, which amplifies moves in both directions.
Avalanche’s role in powering FIFA Collect positions it to benefit from the surge in on-chain activity that major tournaments generate, regardless of which team wins.
The 2026 World Cup kicks off in June, which means the speculation cycle around fan tokens and related assets is already accelerating. Ancelotti’s commitment through 2030 adds a longer-term narrative.
