He also stated, “It’s always easier to encrypt than decrypt,” and linked stronger computing power to better security tools. He argued that crypto will remain functional in a post-quantum era. However, he acknowledged that decentralized governance makes coordinated upgrades difficult. He said disagreements over technical standards could split networks and create competing blockchain versions.

Bitcoin and Network Risks During Upgrades

Zhao warned that new code could introduce bugs or security gaps during early implementation stages. He said self-custody users would need to transfer funds into upgraded wallets after protocol changes. He added that inactive projects might fail to adapt, which could remove weaker platforms from the market. He emphasized that decentralized systems require broad consensus before any protocol shift.
