Chelsea have locked down Pedro Neto with a contract extension that keeps the Portuguese winger at Stamford Bridge until 2032. From Wolverhampton to silverware
Neto arrived at Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024 for a reported fee of £54 million. He was placed on a seven-year deal at the time, one of several long-term contracts that drew raised eyebrows across the football world during Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment spree.
The 26-year-old has racked up 108 appearances for the club, contributing to 40 goal involvements across all competitions. Neto played an integral role in Chelsea’s victories in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, two trophies that gave the post-Boehly era its first real silverware credibility.
His original contract ran until 2031, so extending it by a year might seem modest on the surface. But the real substance here is the restructured terms and the pay rise, which reflect his elevated status within the squad.
The Manchester City factor
During the 2026 summer transfer window, Manchester City were reportedly among the clubs circling Neto. Chelsea’s response was to open negotiations on improved terms rather than entertain offers. Under new manager Xabi Alonso, who took charge ahead of the 2026/27 season, Neto has started brightly, scoring two goals in his first five appearances of the campaign.
What this means for the 2026/27 campaign
With Neto secured, Alonso can plan his attacking rotations with certainty. His two goals in five matches this season suggest he is carrying his form from the 2025 trophy run into the new campaign. For Chelsea’s rivals, the extension removes one avenue of disruption, with Manchester City and others needing to look elsewhere for wide reinforcements.
