Circle stock leads tokenized equity market with $306M in deployments

Circle Internet Group went public on the New York Stock Exchange, and then immediately became one of the most tokenized stocks on the planet. The 20 largest tokenized deployments of Circle’s shares total $305.5 million in combined market cap, putting the USDC issuer at the front of a tokenized equity market that has grown from an afterthought into a multi-billion-dollar arena in under two years.

For context on how fast this space is moving: the entire tokenized equities market sat below $20 million in late 2024. By early September 2026, it had crossed $3.1 billion, an all-time high.

The tokenized CRCL landscape

Three tokenized Circle share products are doing the heaviest lifting. CRCLon, issued by Ondo Finance, carries a market cap ranging between $101 million and $154 million depending on the snapshot. CRCLB, tied to Binance, sits at roughly $119 million. CRCLx from Backed Finance is smaller but has been actively deployed into DeFi protocols, with approximately $2.9 million deployed by mid-August 2026.

The momentum across these three products has been notable. In one recent period, the trio collectively added $36.9 million in market cap, a figure that would have represented nearly twice the entire tokenized equities market as recently as late 2024.

The products differ in their issuer relationships, custody structures, and which blockchains they live on, which matters for anyone evaluating counterparty risk. Backed Finance, Ondo, and Binance each bring different institutional backing and regulatory postures to what is, at its core, the same underlying share.

The regulatory event that changed the math

The catalyst that accelerated much of this activity was a U.S. SEC order that took effect on September 17, 2026. The order creates a conditional framework for trading tokenized U.S. stocks and runs through 2031, giving platforms and issuers a five-year window of regulatory visibility to build around.

Markets responded immediately. Circle shares rose roughly 5.7% to $85.03 following the announcement.

It is worth noting what the SEC did not do: it did not fully equate tokenized stocks with traditional securities in all respects, nor did it open the floodgates to unregistered issuance. The framework is conditional, meaning platforms still need to meet specific requirements to operate within it.

Why Circle specifically dominates this niche

Circle’s position at the top of the tokenized equity rankings is not purely coincidental. The company occupies a unique intersection: it is a publicly traded firm whose core business is digital dollar infrastructure, which means it attracts investor attention from both traditional equity buyers and crypto-native capital allocators.

Institutional interest in real-world asset tokenization has been building for several years, with tokenized Treasuries leading the way. Tokenized equities represent the next frontier in that progression, extending the same logic of putting tradable value onchain to assets that carry equity risk rather than fixed-income risk.
