CoinGecko, one of the most widely used cryptocurrency data platforms, has rolled out Gecko AI, a conversational research tool that lets users query its datasets using natural language. The feature is available at coingecko.com/chat and is aimed at premium subscribers who want more than just price tickers and candlestick charts.
The tool launched on April 22, 2026, as part of a broader suite of AI-driven features that also includes Market Insights, Advanced Charts, and Portfolio Insights. Together, these represent CoinGecko’s clearest signal yet that it sees itself as a research platform, not just a price tracker.
What Gecko AI actually does
Instead of clicking through dozens of coin pages and manually comparing metrics, users can ask Gecko AI questions in plain English and get sourced, verified answers drawn from CoinGecko’s own data infrastructure. The answers are grounded in CoinGecko’s tracked data rather than hallucinated from a general-purpose language model.
Premium users get unlimited queries in an ad-free environment.
The scale of CoinGecko’s data advantage
The platform currently tracks over 17,404 coins and exchanges, with a total tracked market capitalization of approximately $2.239 trillion. CoinGecko monitors over 36 million tokens across hundreds of blockchains.
Where this fits in the competitive landscape
CoinGecko has been around since 2014 and has built a reputation as one of the go-to sources for crypto market data alongside CoinMarketCap.
The risk, as with any AI-powered tool in a fast-moving market, is the gap between what users expect and what the tool can actually deliver. Conversational AI is excellent at synthesizing existing data. It’s less reliable at capturing nuance, flagging emerging risks that don’t yet show up in historical data, or understanding the political and community dynamics that often drive crypto price action.
