December 2024 marked a crucial month for Algorand, with significant progress in the tokenization of real-world assets, an increase in network decentralization, and an extraordinary growth in interaction on social media.

Let’s see all the details in this article.

Increase in nodes and success on social media: a positive balance for the Algorand network

December 2024 closed an extraordinary year for Algorand, consolidating its position as a leader in the blockchain for the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA).

With exceptional results in terms of total value locked (TVL) growth and increased decentralization, the platform is preparing for a 2025 of great opportunities.

The real-world asset sector on Algorand has experienced steady growth for seven consecutive months.

From June 2024, the total value locked in RWA increased by 34.6%, rising from 57 million dollars to 77 million dollars by the end of the year.

December saw an increase of 7.5% compared to November, a clear signal of the dynamism of this sector.

A crucial role in this expansion has been played by Lofty, a platform dedicated to real estate tokenization.

Lofty contributed with regular monthly increases of 3-5 million dollars, bringing its TVL from 31.24 million dollars in June to 50.64 million dollars in December.

This positive trend highlights the potential of Algorand as an ideal platform for institutional tokenization solutions thanks to its architecture, which combines the finality of rapid transactions and reduced costs.

Greater decentralization through the increase of nodes

The main network of Algorand has recorded an increase of 31% in the number of operational nodes over the course of the year.

This result strengthens the decentralization of the network and prepares the ground for the upcoming launch of the Staking Rewards, scheduled for January 2025.

The incentives associated with stacking are driving more and more participants to contribute to the security and resilience of the network.

The presence of Algorand on social media also closed 2024 spectacularly. In the fourth quarter, interaction rates increased to 7.2%, far surpassing the average of 4.3% recorded in the first three quarters of the year.

Furthermore, 64.5% of the total follower growth in 2024 occurred in the last three months, with an addition of 13,196 new members to the community.

This momentum reflects a growing interest and increased public awareness regarding the opportunities offered by the Algorand network.

Updates from the Algorand Foundation

December also saw a series of successful initiatives launched by the Algorand Foundation. Among the most significant events, we find, for example, the India Summit.

That is, a gathering that involved hundreds of blockchain enthusiasts, demonstrating the potential of the network in the Indian market. Furthermore, the Staking Rewards: the Betanet version of the staking rewards system has been successfully implemented.

Then, Algorand Wrapped, that is a recap video of 2024, celebrated a year of transformations for the ecosystem.

Furthermore, the cryptocurrency ALGO has been listed on Bitget, making it available on all the top 20 exchange platforms. Not only that, Weiss Crypto has upgraded Algorand’s rating to “A-“, placing it among the few high-level projects alongside BTC, ETH, and ADA.

The expanding ecosystem

During the month, the initiatives of the ecosystem continued to strengthen the accessibility and efficiency of the network.

Pera Wallet has introduced the Asset Inbox to simplify onboarding and an Express Send feature for quick transfers.

A competition has also been launched, the Immunefi Audit Competition, with a prize of 30,000 dollars in collaboration with Folks Finance. Nodely has instead made advanced telemetry systems available to monitor the health of the nodes.

Finally, FUNC has simplified the management of Algorand nodes with new updates. With the official launch of Staking Rewards on the mainnet and the participation of the Foundation in international events, Algorand is preparing for an ambitious start to the year.

From January 13 to 18, the team will represent the network at CFC Moritz, in Switzerland, and on January 20, it will be present at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
