Eintracht Frankfurt targets Ajax right-back Anton Gaaei for €4.5M signing

Eintracht Frankfurt has set its sights on Ajax right-back Anton Gaaei, with the Bundesliga club reportedly making contact over a move valued at approximately €4.5 million. The deal, if completed, would land Frankfurt a 23-year-old Danish defender whose stock has been rising steadily across European football.

Here’s the thing about this fee: it’s almost exactly what Ajax paid Viborg FF to sign Gaaei back in 2023. So Ajax would essentially be breaking even on a player they’ve developed for multiple seasons.

Ajax’s fire sale and Gaaei’s rising profile

Gaaei is reportedly one of around 20 Ajax players deemed available for transfer this summer.

Gaaei’s current market value sits at an estimated €5 million, which makes Frankfurt’s reported €4.5 million approach feel like a slight discount. With his contract running until 2028, Ajax has leverage here.

Frankfurt isn’t the first club to come knocking. Earlier in the 2025-26 season, both Lazio and Paris FC showed interest in the Dane.

What Frankfurt is actually buying

At 23, Gaaei fits squarely into the profile that modern clubs covet: young enough to develop further, experienced enough to contribute immediately. He’s made significant contributions to Ajax’s campaign this season, establishing himself as a regular starter in the Eredivisie.

As of early July 2026, no deal has been finalized. The interest from Frankfurt remains unofficial, and Ajax has no urgency to sell given the contract situation. Ajax clears a roster spot and recovers its initial investment. Frankfurt gets a young defender with upside at a price that won’t strain the budget.
