The team confirmed its participation in the Roman Imperium Cup IX, a tier-3 offline event scheduled for October 6-9 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. The move reportedly raises FaZe’s probability of qualifying for the next CS2 Major to roughly 70%, up from whatever grimmer number preceded it.
Why one of CS2’s biggest names is playing for $14K
The Roman Imperium Cup IX carries a prize pool estimated at approximately $13,849. What matters are Valve Regional Standings points, the currency that determines which teams earn invitations to Major tournaments. FaZe’s VRS deficit became painfully obvious when the organization missed the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, snapping a streak that stretched back to their entry into the Counter-Strike scene in 2016.
The culprit was underwhelming results at events like DraculaN Season 6 and PGL Bucharest, which left the team without enough VRS points to secure a spot at CS2’s most prestigious tournament circuit.
The Roman Imperium Cup series typically draws between 16 and 22 teams and offers prize pools ranging from $6,000 to $14,000 per edition.
