Andreas Christensen can’t seem to catch a break. FC Barcelona confirmed on September 19 that the Danish center-back sustained a left quadriceps muscle injury during their La Liga clash against Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, ruling him out for several weeks.
The 30-year-old was forced off the pitch in the 59th minute and was visibly distressed while receiving ice treatment on the bench. Gerard Martín came on as his replacement, and Barcelona went on to win 2-1 thanks to a Raphinha brace.
Another chapter in a long injury saga
Manager Hansi Flick confirmed that Christensen is expected to miss several weeks, with an estimated return around October 10, when Barcelona face Getafe. The timing, at least, offers a sliver of good news: an international break gives Barcelona roughly three weeks before their next fixture.
This quadriceps injury arrives just months after Christensen completed a grueling rehabilitation from a partial ACL tear in his left knee. That injury, sustained in December 2025, kept him out for approximately five months until May 2026.
Throughout his time at Camp Nou, Christensen has dealt with a rotating door of muscular ailments, Achilles issues, and calf injuries. For a player who arrived as a free-transfer signing from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, his availability has been the one persistent question mark on an otherwise solid resume.
What Christensen brings when healthy
When fit, Christensen has been a reliable presence in Barcelona’s backline. He’s accumulated over 90 appearances for the club since arriving on a free transfer, a deal that runs through June 30, 2028. On the international stage, the Dane has earned more than 80 caps for Denmark.
