FIFA World Cup final tickets priced at $10,000, and there’s a crypto angle you should know about

1 hour ago 17

Watching the World Cup final in person has always been expensive. But $10,990 for a single Category 1 ticket is a different kind of expensive, the kind that makes you double-check whether you accidentally clicked on a yacht listing.

FIFA’s April 2026 ticket release for the final at MetLife Stadium set that eye-watering price point, representing a roughly 7x increase from the approximately $1,600 that similar seats cost for the 2022 Qatar final. And that’s the face value. On FIFA’s own official resale platform, some listings soared past $2.3 million per seat shortly after release.

For context, group-stage tickets for select loyal fans start at $60. So the pricing spectrum runs from “reasonable night out” to “down payment on a house in most American cities.”

FIFA’s resale marketplace and the 15% cut

FIFA launched its official resale marketplace in October 2025, complete with dynamic pricing.

FIFA takes a 15% transaction fee on every resale. The dynamic pricing model means ticket costs fluctuate based on demand.

The blockchain play: NFTs, Avalanche, and Kraken

FIFA hasn’t just embraced traditional ticketing. It has built an entire blockchain-powered layer on top of the experience through its FIFA Collect platform.

FIFA Collect initially ran on Polygon and Algorand but has since migrated to an Avalanche-derived Layer 1 blockchain. The platform lets fans purchase “Right-to-Buy” digital collectibles, which are essentially NFTs that grant priority access to purchase tickets for matches, including the final.

Kraken was named the Official Crypto Exchange Supporter of the 2026 World Cup in early June 2026.

The Swiss gambling authority, Gespa, filed a criminal complaint in October 2025 regarding FIFA’s NFT platform, investigating whether the digital collectibles constitute a form of gambling under Swiss law.

Law enforcement agencies have also issued warnings about scams targeting fans desperate to secure World Cup tickets.
