K2 Space raises $500M at $6.8B valuation, doubling down on mega satellites

Two years ago, K2 Space was a startup. Today, it is reportedly raising $500 million at a valuation between $6.8 billion and $7 billion, which puts it in the same conversation as established aerospace primes that have been around for decades.

The Los Angeles-based satellite developer, founded in 2022 by brothers Karan and Neel Kunjur, both former SpaceX engineers, has grown at a pace that makes most venture-backed companies look sluggish by comparison.

From $3B to $7B in under a year

The most telling data point here is the speed of the valuation jump. K2 Space closed a $250 million Series C round on December 11, 2025, at a $3 billion valuation. The new round, if it closes at the reported figures, would roughly double that number in roughly seven months.

Total disclosed funding before this new round sat at approximately $425 million to $450 million. Adding $500 million on top of that means the company will have raised nearly $1 billion in total capital.

The company operates out of a 180,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Los Angeles and employs around 300 people.

What K2 Space actually builds

The core product is what the company calls “Mega Class” satellites, large platforms capable of delivering up to 20 kilowatts of power. For context, that is roughly ten times the output of typical satellites currently operating in existing constellations.

K2 has already secured contracts with the Space Force and with Anduril, the defense technology company backed by Peter Thiel, which positions it firmly in the national security supply chain. The company’s first satellite, called Gravitas, is in the pipeline for launch. It also opened a new engineering office in Seattle in July 2026.
