Lambda sells leveraged loan to finance chip deal amid AI boom

Lambda, the AI cloud infrastructure company that brands itself “The Superintelligence Cloud,” has closed a $1 billion syndicated senior secured credit facility. The deal, arranged by J.P. Morgan and reportedly oversubscribed, represents a nearly fourfold increase from the $275 million facility Lambda established in August 2025.

The capital is earmarked for deploying next-generation Nvidia AI accelerator servers and expanding data center capacity.

The GPU arms race gets a credit line

Lambda’s latest financing move fits neatly into a broader pattern of leveraged lending flowing into AI infrastructure. The company secured a $500 million loan in 2024 that was collateralized by Nvidia chips, essentially using GPUs as collateral the way a traditional borrower might pledge real estate.

Founded in 2012 by machine learning engineers, Lambda now serves tens of thousands of customers with GPU clusters purpose-built for AI training and inference workloads. The company raised $480 million in a Series D funding round in February 2025, adding equity capital on top of its growing debt stack.

Microsoft partnership anchors the business case

Lambda has cemented a multibillion-dollar commercial partnership with Microsoft focused on building AI infrastructure powered by Nvidia technology. That kind of anchor tenant gives lenders something concrete to underwrite against, rather than just a thesis about future AI demand.
