The previous meeting between these two sides told a very different story. Back in January 2026, Newcastle edged Leeds 4-3 in a chaotic, back-and-forth thriller. Leeds have historically enjoyed some big days against Newcastle, beating the Magpies 5-2 in December 2020.
Calvert-Lewin’s statement afternoon
The individual story of the match belongs entirely to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. His first goal arrived at the 34th minute, just two minutes after Miley’s own goal. He added his second at the 44th minute, and completed his hat-trick in stoppage time at 45+1.
What this means for both clubs
Leeds move to eight points from four games. For Newcastle, five points from three games had looked like a solid foundation before conceding four in a single half, with one of those coming from their own player Lewis Miley in the 32nd minute.
