Legacy secures third place at Esports World Cup, defeats FURIA in all-Brazilian CS2 clash

Legacy closed out the Esports World Cup 2026 CS2 tournament on August 23 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over FURIA, securing third place at one of the year’s most prestigious Counter-Strike events.

The best-of-three decider match started poorly for Legacy. FURIA took the first map on Ancient with a convincing 13-9 scoreline. But Legacy had other ideas, winning both remaining maps to complete the reverse sweep.

Legacy’s path through the EWC bracket was genuinely impressive. The squad notched a clean 2-0 sweep over Natus Vincere before dispatching Falcons by the same scoreline in the playoff brackets. Those wins earned Legacy a semifinal berth against Spirit, where their run hit a wall in the form of a 0-2 loss.

FURIA’s semifinal exit came at the hands of FUT Esports, setting up the third-place consolation match between the two Brazilian rosters. The grand final ultimately featured FUT Esports against Team Spirit.

From 00 Nation’s ashes to global contenders

Legacy’s origin story adds another layer to the result. The organization was established in 2023 following the split of 00 Nation’s Brazilian division. In roughly three years, they’ve climbed to approximately 12th in the world and are now consistently competing at Valve Tier 1 events.

Reaching the semifinals at a tournament with a $2 million prize pool and 32 teams competing on LAN in France is the kind of result that can reshape a team’s trajectory.

What the result means for the CS2 landscape

The EWC 2026 CS2 tournament, held from August 12 to 23, reinforced the game’s status as one of the premier titles in competitive gaming. A $2 million prize pool for a single title within the broader Esports World Cup framework speaks to the continued commercial viability of Counter-Strike.
