Liverpool plans to let Alisson leave next summer as Anfield enters new era

Liverpool has decided not to offer Alisson Becker a new contract, meaning the goalkeeper who helped transform the club into serial winners will walk out of Anfield as a free agent next summer.

The club triggered a one-year extension back in March 2026, keeping Alisson under contract through the end of the 2026-27 season.

A calculated farewell

Alisson turned 34 in October 2026, and while he has started every match so far this season under new head coach Andoni Iraola, hamstring issues have plagued his recent seasons.

Juventus came knocking in 2026, expressing serious interest in bringing the Brazilian to Turin. Liverpool blocked the move, and Alisson chose to honor his contract rather than push for the door.

Since arriving from Roma in July 2018, Alisson has made over 330 appearances in a Liverpool shirt. In that time, he collected two Premier League titles and a Champions League medal.

The bigger picture at Anfield

Mohamed Salah has already left. Andy Robertson, another pillar of the Klopp dynasty, has also departed. Captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract expires in 2027 as well, putting him in the same uncertain territory as Alisson.

Liverpool’s recruitment team has been scouting Giorgi Mamardashvili as a potential successor between the posts. They’ve also moved to acquire Lucca Brughmans, a young goalkeeper from Belgian side Genk, in a deal reported to be worth up to £30 million. Brughmans is expected to join in summer 2027, which would slot him in right as Alisson departs.
