TLDR
- Monad proposed a wallet security upgrade that would let users replace or retire keys without changing their existing wallet address.
- The system could support account recovery, allowing users to regain access after losing a private key through predefined recovery methods.
- Users could upgrade to multisig, passkeys, or quantum-resistant security without transferring assets to a new wallet.
- The proposal remains an early draft, with a detailed technical specification and implementation timeline still pending.
- Monad’s DeFi ecosystem holds about $937 million to $939 million in TVL, while stablecoins on the network total roughly $732 million.
- MON trades near $0.030–$0.031, after gaining more than 40% over the past week and month.
Monad (MON) has proposed an account security model that would let users change wallet credentials without giving up their existing address. The Monad wallet upgrade aims to separate a permanent account address from the keys used to approve transactions.
Under the current model, losing a private key can permanently block access to funds. Moving to stronger security can require a new wallet and transfers.
Monad Wallet Upgrade Separates Address From Keys
The proposal would allow users to add, replace, or retire credentials linked to one address. These could include crypto keys, passkeys, multiple signers, or quantum-resistant methods.
Users could create recovery rules for lost keys. Two people, for example, could approve a replacement credential if the main key becomes unavailable. Users could convert an account into a multisignature wallet without moving assets.
Quantum computing remains a long-term concern for blockchains. Powerful quantum machines could eventually weaken digital signature systems used to prove wallet ownership.
Bitcoin developers are studying quantum-resistant signature methods, while Ethereum has made post-quantum security part of research. Monad focuses on the account layer, allowing users to switch security systems while keeping the address.
The Monad wallet upgrade could support a move to quantum-resistant cryptography. Users would not need to abandon an address or transfer tokens if security becomes necessary.
Authors Kushal Babel and Jan Camenisch described the proposal as an early design. A technical specification still needs to be written before developers can review details.
Existing accounts would continue working normally if Monad adopts the change. The proposal does not require upgrades, and developers have not announced an activation date.
Monad launched its mainnet in late 2025 after raising $19 million in 2023 and $225 million in a Paradigm-led round in 2024. The network remains compatible with Ethereum applications.
Monad DeFi Activity Nears $1 Billion
Monad’s decentralized finance market holds about $937 million to $939 million in total value locked, according to DefiLlama data provided for the report. Stablecoins on the network total about $732 million.
Decentralized exchange trading reached $329 million over the past 24 hours. The figures place Monad close to $1 billion in DeFi deposits as network activity remains elevated.
MON trades near $0.030 to $0.031 on August 25, 2026, after gaining about 1% to 2% over 24 hours. The token has risen more than 40% over the past week and month after recovering from levels near $0.02.
Its market value stands near $355 million to $360 million, while daily trading volume ranges from $60 million to $90 million.
