The summer transfer window has a new centerpiece, and it involves one of the most coveted young forwards in the Premier League. Manchester United is reportedly preparing a £109 million plus add-ons offer for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, a move designed to pull the rug out from under Arsenal, who had been quietly building what looked like a comfortable lead in the race.
Arsenal had already made meaningful progress on personal terms with Rogers. The 23-year-old England international had reportedly shown a preference for the North London club.
What we know about the Rogers situation
Aston Villa has put a price tag of between £100M and £130M on Rogers, a range that reflects both his market value and Villa’s reluctance to sell a player who has become one of the more exciting attacking talents in the top flight.
Rogers joined Villa in 2024 and quickly established himself as a genuine Premier League standout. His contract runs until 2031, which gives Villa all the leverage they need to hold firm on valuation.
Arsenal’s approach has been methodical. Rather than leading with a headline bid, the club worked to secure Rogers’ personal buy-in first. That groundwork now faces a direct challenge from United’s reported offer.
Manchester United’s interest has not yet translated into a formal bid according to available reports. The £109M figure is the number being floated as their opening position, potentially including structured add-ons to reach the upper end of Villa’s valuation range.
Arsenal’s backup plan: Barcola
Should the Rogers pursuit stall, Arsenal is reportedly considering Bradley Barcola of PSG as an alternative or complementary attacking option.
The formal Arsenal bid is expected soon, which means the next few days could resolve this quickly or escalate it further. If United submits a competing offer before Arsenal moves, Villa may find themselves in a position to hold an informal auction.
