Manchester United set to sign Ferdi Kadıoğlu from Brighton for £40M

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Ferdi Kadıoğlu from Brighton & Hove Albion for roughly £40 million, addressing one of the most persistent problem positions in their squad. The Turkish international is set to become Michael Carrick’s latest defensive reinforcement.

The fee represents a significant markup from the approximately £25 million Brighton paid Fenerbahçe for Kadıoğlu back in August 2024.

From rocky start to player of the year

Kadıoğlu’s debut season was hampered by injuries. But the 2025/26 campaign told a completely different story. He established himself as one of the most reliable performers in Fabian Hürzeler’s squad, earning Brighton’s player of the year award.

He scored the winning goal for Turkey in a 2026 World Cup playoff against Romania.

Why United need this deal

Manchester United had been tracking Kadıoğlu since at least spring 2026. Lewis Hall and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde were also reportedly considered as potential targets.

The left-back position has long been a source of anxiety at Old Trafford, largely tied to Luke Shaw’s persistent fitness concerns. At around 26 or 27, Kadıoğlu sits in the sweet spot of the age curve.

Brighton’s pipeline keeps humming

There’s also a minor subplot playing out in Istanbul. Fenerbahçe negotiated a 10% sell-on clause when they sold Kadıoğlu to Brighton in 2024. That means the Turkish giants are set to pocket approximately £4 million from this deal.

The reports originated primarily from Turkish publication AS Marca before being picked up by UK media. Confirmation from the clubs themselves hasn’t arrived yet.
