Kylian Mbappé just did what Kylian Mbappé does. The French striker scored the goal that pushed France to 150 total FIFA World Cup goals, placing them alongside Brazil, Germany, and Argentina as the only nations to reach that milestone.
The milestone came during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the US. France has been moving through the knockout stages effectively, including a tight 1-0 victory over Paraguay where Mbappé played a decisive role.
On Coinbase’s prediction markets, matches involving Mbappé and France recorded over $465,000 in trading volume.
Meanwhile, Solana-based meme tokens saw immediate action. The $MBAPPE token, which has had a turbulent history including prior fraudulent promotions that briefly pushed it to a $464 million market cap, experienced trading spikes correlated with France’s World Cup performances.
Mbappé’s existing crypto footprint
Mbappé has been an investor and ambassador for Sorare, the Ethereum-based NFT fantasy football platform, since June 2022. The platform lets users buy, sell, and trade digital player cards to compete in fantasy leagues.
One of his NFT cards on the platform sold for $66,850, a figure that reflects both his stature in football and the speculative appetite that exists at the intersection of sports collectibles and blockchain technology.
There is no official token or protocol tied to France’s 150-goal milestone, and there likely won’t be one.
The $MBAPPE token’s history is instructive. A token that previously hit a $464 million market cap through fraudulent promotions is not exactly a confidence-inspiring investment vehicle. Sorare’s NFT marketplace operates on fundamentally different principles than a Solana-based token named after a footballer.
