Monza appoints Ivan Jurić as new head coach

AC Monza has turned to Ivan Jurić as their next head coach, bringing in a manager whose recent career reads like a frequent flyer program gone wrong. The 49-year-old Croatian is set to take over at the Serie A club, with reports from Sky Sport Italy indicating an agreement in principle that could keep him at Monza through 2028, with an option extending to 2029.

A coach on the rebound, and then some

Jurić built something genuinely impressive at Torino, where he spent three seasons from 2021 to 2024, turning a perennial relegation battler into a respectable mid-table outfit. He took over at Roma in September 2024, a gig that lasted about as long as a Roman summer. From there, he crossed the English Channel to Southampton in December 2024, with that stint ending in April 2025.

His most recent role was at Atalanta. A seven-match winless streak left the Bergamo club sitting in 13th place in Serie A, and he was dismissed on November 10, 2025.

What Monza is getting

A deal through 2028 with an option for 2029 signals that Monza isn’t looking for a quick fix. They’re betting on Jurić as a project manager, not a caretaker.

The bigger picture for Monza and Jurić

Monza’s recent managerial history has been its own carousel. Alessandro Nesta was appointed in 2024 but the club has cycled through turbulent management changes since then, a pattern that has made it difficult to build any sustained momentum in the top flight.
