Moonshot AI targets $2B in annualized revenue by year-end after ARR triples in two months

Moonshot AI, the Chinese startup behind the Kimi chatbot, is sprinting toward $2 billion in annualized revenue by the end of 2026. That’s a target that would have sounded absurd six months ago, when the company was pulling in roughly $200 million in ARR. It sounds considerably less absurd now.

The Beijing-based lab hit $1 billion in annual recurring revenue by August, more than tripling from $300 million just two months earlier in June. The catalyst: the launch of Kimi K3, a flagship model that appears to have supercharged both API usage and consumer subscriptions virtually overnight.

From obscurity to billion-dollar run rate

Moonshot AI’s revenue trajectory in 2026 reads like a hockey stick someone tilted even further upward. The company entered the year modestly, reaching about $200 million in ARR by April. By June, that figure climbed to $300 million. Then Kimi K3 dropped on July 16, and the growth curve broke.

The K3 model packs roughly 2.8 trillion parameters and supports a context window of 1 million tokens. Moonshot claims the model outperforms competitors while costing less to run.

The company has roughly 300 employees.

IPO ambitions and a $35 billion valuation

The company has filed confidentially for a Hong Kong IPO that could raise approximately $3 billion. Discussions are also underway for a potential dual listing on the Shanghai STAR Market.

Moonshot raised $2 billion in May 2026 at a $20 billion valuation. By July, that valuation had climbed to $35 billion.

To facilitate the IPO, Moonshot is reportedly winding down its offshore corporate structure.

Founded in March 2023, Moonshot has gone from a scrappy three-year-old startup to a company preparing for one of the most anticipated tech IPOs in Asia.

Enterprise push and the path to $2 billion

On September 10, Moonshot launched the Kimi Enterprise Partner Program, a channel strategy built around partnerships with leading Chinese IT service providers. The program is designed to distribute Moonshot’s AI technology through established enterprise sales networks rather than relying solely on direct API sales and consumer subscriptions.

Moonshot is also reportedly in negotiations around enhanced revenue-sharing models, though the specifics of those deals remain to be seen.
