Glass Imaging, a startup specializing in AI-powered smartphone camera technology, has reportedly been acquired by OpenAI in a deal valued at over $300 million.
Glass Imaging has built its reputation on a proprietary technology called GlassAI, a Neural ISP (image signal processing) system designed to dramatically improve camera performance on mobile devices. The company’s software tackles lens aberrations, sensor imperfections, and low-light image quality.
What Glass Imaging actually does
Founded in 2019 by Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, both former Apple engineers, Glass Imaging is based in Los Altos, California. The company’s core pitch is compelling: use AI to make smartphone cameras dramatically better without falling into the trap of generative “hallucinations,” where AI systems fabricate visual details that don’t actually exist in the scene.
Glass Imaging’s Neural ISP has been deployed in Honor smartphones, and the company has demonstrated capabilities in real-time video enhancement. Prior to this deal, Glass Imaging had raised approximately $31.5 million across several funding rounds. The company secured an initial $2.2 million in 2022, followed by a $9.3 million extended seed round in 2024 led by GV (formerly Google Ventures). Most recently, in May 2025, Insight Partners spearheaded a $20 million Series A round.
A $300 million-plus acquisition price would represent roughly a 10x return on the company’s total fundraising.
OpenAI’s acquisition appetite
This deal fits into a pattern of aggressive dealmaking by OpenAI over the past two years. The company acquired io in a deal worth approximately $6.5 billion and picked up Statsig for $1.1 billion.
Investors who backed Glass Imaging through its seed and Series A rounds stand to do well on a $300 million-plus exit. GV and Insight Partners, the lead investors in the last two rounds, would see meaningful returns on relatively recent investments, particularly Insight Partners, whose $20 million Series A check was written just over a year ago.
