OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Small Businesses program with GPT-5.6 powered workspace

3 hours ago 27

OpenAI just rolled out ChatGPT Work, a productivity layer built on GPT-5.6 that lets businesses automate multi-step tasks across connected apps like Slack, Google Drive, and Microsoft Teams. The initial rollout covers Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plans, with Business and Plus users next in line.

At roughly $25 per user per month for the ChatGPT Business tier, OpenAI is making a very deliberate play for the small and midsize business market. The company says it already has over 5 million business users and more than 1 million enterprises tapping into its AI tools.

What ChatGPT Work actually does

ChatGPT Work handles document creation, workflow automation, and cross-platform integrations. The feature is powered by GPT-5.6, which can maintain context and execute across connected apps for hours at a stretch.

ChatGPT first launched in November 2022 as a consumer chatbot. ChatGPT Enterprise followed in August 2023. OpenAI’s “Small Business AI Jam” program, which ran in November 2025, trained 1,000 small business owners across five US hubs.

Why crypto should be paying attention

OpenAI’s announcement has zero direct connection to cryptocurrency or blockchain technology. Not a single mention of tokens, decentralized infrastructure, or Web3.

OpenAI processing tasks across Slack, Google Drive, and Teams means it’s sitting on an enormous amount of business data flowing through its systems.

The competitive landscape is heating up

OpenAI isn’t operating in a vacuum. Anthropic has been aggressively courting enterprise customers with Claude, and Google’s Gemini continues to push deeper into workspace integrations.

The $25 per user per month price point for ChatGPT Business signals that OpenAI is prioritizing market share over margin.
