OpenSea partners with Perplexity to integrate live onchain data into AI answers

OpenSea just became the live data backbone for one of the most popular AI search engines on the planet. The NFT marketplace announced a partnership with Perplexity Computer that feeds real-time onchain market data directly into Perplexity’s AI-generated answers, covering everything from tokens to collectibles to NFTs.

The integration, announced on August 27, 2026, means that when users ask Perplexity about crypto market activity, the responses will pull from actual marketplace signals rather than stale price feeds scraped from aggregator sites.

What the integration actually does

OpenSea now serves as a live data source for Perplexity’s AI, providing real-time metrics across more than 25 blockchain networks. That includes most-traded tokens, top assets ranked by activity, and buyer and trader signals, all grounded in verifiable, cited data.

OpenSea supports over 20 blockchains including Ethereum, Polygon, and Solana, giving Perplexity’s AI a wide lens into onchain activity.

OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer framed the partnership as a step toward making onchain data both accessible and actionable for AI agents in real-time.

OpenSea’s quiet evolution

This partnership is the latest signal that OpenSea is repositioning itself beyond its roots as an NFT marketplace. The company has been building out what it calls onchain trading infrastructure, and it has developed an MCP (Marketplace Connector Protocol) server specifically designed for AI data access.

Why Perplexity wants this

For Perplexity, the calculus is straightforward. AI search engines live and die by the quality of their sources. Plugging directly into OpenSea’s real-time feeds solves the problem of stale data for crypto queries.

Perplexity’s AI responses drawing from this integration will be grounded in verifiable, cited data, anchoring answers to actual onchain activity.

What this means for the market

For traders and developers, the practical impact could be substantial. Direct marketplace signals, surfaced through natural language queries, lower the barrier to onchain market analysis. With activity fragmented across dozens of networks, aggregating data from 25+ chains addresses a real pain point for participants who would otherwise need to monitor Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and other networks independently.
