Oracle posted fiscal first-quarter 2027 results showing $19.35 billion in total revenue, a 30% jump from the same period a year ago. That beat analyst expectations of roughly $19.14 billion. Shares climbed about 6-7% in after-hours trading.
The cloud numbers tell the real story
Oracle’s cloud infrastructure segment delivered $7.4 billion in revenue, a 121% increase year-over-year. Total cloud revenue, which includes infrastructure plus applications, hit $11.6 billion, up 62% from the prior year.
Remaining performance obligations reached $664 billion, up $209 billion from a year earlier. New AI cloud contracts alone accounted for more than $30 billion in the quarter.
Oracle delivered 850 megawatts of new data center capacity and deployed over 300,000 GPUs during the quarter. GPU utilization rates were described as high.
The cash flow wrinkle
Free cash flow came in at negative $5.4 billion, driven by $28.5 billion in capital expenditure directed primarily toward data center expansion. Oracle addressed the cash burn concern by pointing to customer prepayments on multi-year, multi-billion-dollar cloud contracts.
The company raised its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to at least $90 billion, implying roughly 34% growth for the year. It also projected non-GAAP earnings per share of $8.10 for the full fiscal year.
Why this matters beyond Oracle
Oracle’s results carry implications for the broader AI supply chain. Nvidia, which supplies the GPUs filling Oracle’s data centers, benefits directly from deployments of this scale. Rival cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud will face renewed pressure to demonstrate similar conversion rates from AI capex to AI revenue.
The stock remains down year-to-date despite the post-earnings pop.
