Paris Saint-Germain sets record with 10 players on Ballon d’Or shortlist

There are dominant clubs, and then there is Paris Saint-Germain right now. France Football is set to reveal a 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist for 2026 that includes 10 PSG players, breaking the club’s own previous record and sending a fairly clear message about where world football’s center of gravity currently sits.

The shortlist announcement is expected around September 8, 2026, with the full ceremony scheduled for October. Ten nominees from a single club, on a list of 30, means roughly one in three candidates calls the Parc des Princes home.

How PSG got here

PSG secured back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles and put together a dominant domestic campaign in the 2025-26 season, building on a treble win the year before that included Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

The previous high-water mark was nine PSG nominees, set in 2025 after their first Champions League triumph under Luis Enrique. One year later, they’ve added another to that count.

Among the players widely anticipated to feature on the list are Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Achraf Hakimi. Dembélé won the Ballon d’Or outright in 2025, making him the defending champion heading into this cycle. Kvaratskhelia arrived from Napoli and quickly became one of the most electric attackers in Europe.

Luis Enrique’s confident stance

PSG coach Luis Enrique has stated that a PSG player “must win” the 2026 Ballon d’Or, framing it less as optimism and more as logical conclusion given what the club has accomplished.

The Ballon d’Or, awarded by France Football since 1956, has historically rewarded players whose clubs win the Champions League.

What a 10-player shortlist actually means

To put the number in perspective: the Ballon d’Or shortlist contains 30 names drawn from the entire planet of professional football. Getting 10 means PSG accounts for a third of the entire field before a single vote is cast.

It also reflects a shift in how PSG has built its squad since the departure of Kylian Mbappé. Rather than organizing the roster around one generational superstar, Luis Enrique has distributed quality across the lineup, resulting in a team where multiple players can credibly claim to have been decisive in a Champions League run.

The formal confirmation of all 30 nominees will arrive in early September, with the ceremony following in October.
