Paris Saint-Germain to finalize Ousmane Dembélé contract extension after FIFA World Cup

2 hours ago 14

Paris Saint-Germain and Ousmane Dembélé have agreed to resume contract extension negotiations after the 2026 FIFA World Cup wraps up, with both sides reportedly moving closer to a long-term deal that would keep the French forward at the Parc des Princes well beyond his current 2028 expiration date.

The gap between offer and ask

Back in January 2026, PSG put a three-year extension on the table worth approximately €30 million per year. Dembélé’s camp said no. Their counter: roughly €60 million annually.

Dembélé has reportedly turned down interest from other clubs, signaling he genuinely wants to stay in Paris. The 29-year-old has been instrumental in PSG’s recent run of success, contributing to two consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.

Reports from mid-June 2026 suggest both sides are now aligned on sporting ambitions. The expectation is that a finalized agreement will come together once the World Cup concludes.

Why PSG can’t afford to wait too long

Dembélé’s contract expires in 2028. Once a player enters the final 18 months of a deal, rival clubs can approach him for free transfer negotiations.

The crypto angle, or lack thereof

The contract extension discussions between PSG and Dembélé are a purely traditional football negotiation. That said, PSG does maintain a commercial partnership with Bitpanda as its Official Crypto Trading Partner. The club also has its own fan token, PSG, which trades on several exchanges. Major personnel moves at top football clubs have historically moved fan token prices. A confirmed Dembélé extension could provide a short-term catalyst, while prolonged uncertainty or a breakdown in talks could weigh on sentiment.

Once the tournament ends, both parties are expected to move quickly. Dembélé wants to stay, PSG wants to keep him, and the only real question left is finding a number between €30 million and €60 million they can both live with.
