Rarible is heading back to Solana. The multichain NFT marketplace announced on July 31 that it will expand to the Solana blockchain following a favorable governance vote by the RARI DAO, marking a return to a network it quietly walked away from years ago.
The platform is targeting a late August 2026 launch, roughly four weeks from the announcement, with development and security audits already underway. The inaugural collection on Rarible’s Solana marketplace will be Claynosaurz, the 3D-animated dinosaur project that originally launched in November 2022.
A second chance at Solana
Rarible originally integrated with Solana back in 2022 through the Metaplex protocol, but phased out that support during a broader restructuring. Rarible, founded in 2019 by Alex Salnikov and Alexei Falin, has spent the intervening years building out multichain infrastructure across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and Polygon.
The RARI governance token, which launched in July 2020, gave the community a direct say in this decision. The DAO voted in favor of the expansion, and Rarible’s messaging on the announcement made clear that community support was the driving force.
Rarible had already been testing the waters before this full marketplace commitment. In June 2026, the platform launched Gacha Station, a collectibles feature on Solana that served as something of a soft reentry.
What Rarible brings to the table
Solana’s NFT ecosystem already has formidable players. Tensor and Magic Eden have carved out significant market share, each with their own strengths in trading infrastructure and user experience.
The most notable feature Rarible plans to deploy is its royalty enforcement system. Many marketplaces moved to optional royalties or eliminated them entirely, effectively cutting creators out of secondary sales revenue. Rarible has maintained a harder line on enforcing these payments, which could make it an attractive destination for Solana-based artists who want to get paid when their work changes hands.
Beyond royalties, Rarible will bring its escrow tools and cross-chain infrastructure to Solana. The choice of Claynosaurz as the launch collection is strategic. The project has maintained a loyal community on Solana and its 3D-animated aesthetic stands out in a market still dominated by static profile pictures.
What this means for investors
For traders specifically, Rarible’s established user base across Ethereum and other chains could funnel new liquidity into Solana-based NFTs. Cross-chain users who already trust Rarible might explore Solana collections they would have otherwise ignored.
The fact that RARI DAO drove this decision means token holders have a genuine say in the platform’s strategic direction. For RARI token holders, successful execution on Solana could validate the governance model and potentially attract more participants to the DAO.
The risks are real, though. Rarible tried Solana once before and retreated. Tensor and Magic Eden aren’t going to roll over for a returning competitor, and both have had years to build deep integrations with Solana’s creator community.
The late August timeline also leaves little room for delays. Security audits on new smart contract deployments can surface issues that push launches back by weeks or months.
