A captain’s performance
Valverde’s opening goal carried an unusual assist credit. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois initiated the play that led to the first strike. The second goal pushed the scoreline to 2-0, and by the time Valverde completed his hat-trick three minutes before the break, City’s players looked like they were already thinking about the bus ride home.
