Real Madrid enters talks with RB Leipzig to sign teenage winger Yan Diomande

Real Madrid are negotiating with RB Leipzig over a deal for 19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, adding another chapter to the club’s long-running strategy of hoarding elite young talent before rival clubs can lock them down.

Diomande only joined Leipzig in July 2025 for approximately €20 million from Spanish side CD Leganés. In the span of roughly 12 months, he’s gone from a promising La Liga prospect to a transfer target for the biggest club in world football.

From Abidjan to the Bernabéu’s radar

Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on November 14, 2006, Diomande is still just 19 years old. He plays as a right winger and wears the number 49 shirt at Leipzig.

By October 2025, just a few months into his Leipzig tenure, Diomande earned his first senior call-up to the Ivory Coast national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

His contract with Leipzig runs until June 2030, which gives the German club significant leverage in any negotiation.

Real Madrid’s talent acquisition machine

Reports have also connected Diomande to Paris Saint-Germain, setting up the kind of bidding dynamic that tends to drive transfer fees skyward.

Diomande is represented by Roc Nation Sports, the agency founded by Jay-Z that has expanded aggressively into football representation.

What this means for the transfer landscape

The timing of these talks matters. Diomande has been at Leipzig for barely a year, which means any transfer fee Real Madrid pay would almost certainly represent a significant markup on the €20 million Leipzig invested.

Leipzig’s negotiating position is strong on paper. A contract running to 2030 means there’s no urgency to sell, no impending free agency to worry about. But the Bundesliga club has a well-established pattern of selling its best players when top-tier clubs come knocking. Naby Keita to Liverpool, Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich, Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea: the exits have been steady and profitable.
