Ripple Labs has recently filed a trademark application for “Ripple Custody”, indicating a possible expansion into the cryptocurrency custody sector.

This strategic move could further strengthen the role of the company behind XRP in the landscape of digital asset management.

Ripple: the expansion in the cryptocurrency custody sector

According to the filed documents, Ripple indicated four possible areas of use for the “Ripple Custody” trademark, including financial services specialized in the management and custody of cryptocurrencies.

In particular, the company specified, in the trademark registration, the offering of custody services for the financial management of digital assets.

Crypto custody companies play an increasingly significant role in the digital financial ecosystem, providing secure solutions for the storage and protection of digital assets for private and institutional investors.

These services help reduce the risks associated with the loss of private keys and security breaches.

In a landscape where the demand for custody services is growing rapidly, Ripple aims to position itself among the leaders of the sector.

Interest in these solutions has increased significantly after the approval in the United States of ETFs on criptovalute in 2024, demonstrating the importance of reliable solutions for managing digital assets.

Currently, large institutions such as Coinbase, Citi, and BNY Mellon dominate the crypto custody market.

The previous launch of Ripple’s custody service

The trademark application follows Ripple’s launch of its custody service in October 2024

At the time, the company had clarified that the initiative aimed to diversify its sources of income, going beyond the traditional payment settlement service.

A spokesperson for Ripple avoided making comments on the trademark filing, leaving open speculations about possible future developments of the company in the crypto custody sector.

Towards a possible Ripple wallet?

Another interesting indication that emerged from the trademark registration concerns the possibility that Ripple is working on its own solution for the custody and transmission of cryptocurrencies, virtual currencies, and fiat

In particular, the company mentions downloadable software for the custody and storage of digital assets, suggesting the potential development of a dedicated wallet.

At the moment, Ripple does not offer any official digital wallet for cryptocurrencies, leaving the task to specialized companies like Ledger, Trezor, Trust Wallet, and Exodus. If the company were to actually launch a proprietary wallet, it could expand its revenue through transaction fees and improve support for its native token, XRP.

Ripple continues to explore new possibilities in the blockchain and cryptocurrency sector. The registration of the trademark “Ripple Custody” suggests a growing commitment to digital asset custody, in line with the increasing demand for security services for cryptocurrencies.

The introduction of a potential proprietary wallet could represent a further step forward for Ripple, allowing it to expand its products and services within the bull market.

However, the company has not yet made any details official, leaving the sector waiting for future developments.
