Robinhood disclosed a significant month-over-month surge in cryptocurrency trading activity for August, with volumes climbing from $10.9 billion in July to $17.5 billion. The 61% monthly gain represents a recovery from sluggish summer trading, though the platform continues to trail 2025 performance levels.

When examining year-over-year metrics, the picture becomes less optimistic. August 2026 volume sits 38% beneath the $28.1 billion recorded in August 2025, indicating the platform’s crypto business hasn’t fully recaptured previous momentum.

The European cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp, which Robinhood completed acquiring in June 2025, processed $10.1 billion during August. This represented a 53% monthly increase, though it remained 30% lower than Bitstamp’s August 2025 performance.

Meanwhile, the core Robinhood application contributed $7.4 billion to the monthly crypto total. This figure marked a 72% improvement from July but reflected a 46% year-over-year contraction.

Combined, Robinhood’s cryptocurrency platforms processed approximately $565 million in average daily volume throughout August.

Event Contracts Demonstrate Explosive Annual Expansion

Although cryptocurrency volumes posted respectable monthly gains, Robinhood’s prediction markets segment is experiencing substantially higher growth rates on an annual basis.

August saw 4.7 billion event contracts change hands across the platform. This represents approximately 15 times the 300 million contracts traded during August 2025, despite experiencing a 23% sequential decline from July’s activity.

Second-quarter financials revealed that event contract revenue reached $156 million, eclipsing the $100 million generated from cryptocurrency transactions. During that same quarter, crypto transaction revenue experienced a 38% annual decrease.

The company facilitates event contract trading through multiple venues, including Kalshi and ForecastEx, plus Rothera—a collaborative venture initiated in June. By the second quarter’s conclusion, Rothera had already facilitated over 3.5 billion contract transactions.

Since January, US legislators have proposed more than 10 bills addressing prediction markets, with ongoing discussions centered on whether specific contract types should fall under derivatives regulation or gambling frameworks.

Blockchain Network Experiences Expansion and Technical Challenges

Robinhood Chain, the company’s proprietary blockchain infrastructure, demonstrated notable traction. Decentralized trading platforms operating on the network logged approximately $1.6 billion in daily volume by September 1, marking a 61% increase over four days.

The blockchain launched its public mainnet on July 1, enabling tokenized equity trading across more than 120 international markets, excluding United States customers.

On September 4, the network experienced a 14-minute disruption that temporarily suspended block generation. Robinhood confirmed that customer account balances remained intact and traditional brokerage services operated without interruption.

Total assets managed across Robinhood’s platform reached $384 billion by August’s end, representing a 26% annual increase. The company served 28.6 million funded accounts, while margin lending balances rose to $21.5 billion.
