Roblox shares rise 11% after unveiling new game design tools at developer conference

Roblox just gave its creator community a substantial upgrade, and Wall Street responded accordingly. Shares of the gaming platform surged more than 11% on September 14 after the company rolled out a suite of new tools and features at its 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference in San Jose, California.

The centerpiece announcement, branded “Roblox Everywhere,” lets creators distribute their games as standalone applications across mobile, PC, and consoles. Instead of requiring users to open the Roblox app first, individual games can now live independently on a player’s device.

What Roblox actually announced

The three-day RDC event, which ran from September 10 to 12, doubled as a celebration of Roblox’s 20th anniversary. The company used the occasion to unveil several features designed to make building games easier and playing them more accessible.

Browser-based gameplay through Chrome is expected to arrive by the end of 2026. Offline play, a feature that would let users engage without an internet connection, is targeted for mid-2027.

On the AI front, Roblox introduced the Scene Generator, a tool slated for later in 2026 that helps creators build environments more quickly. The company also expanded the public alpha of its prompt-based “Build” tool, which lets developers describe what they want and have the system generate it.

Perhaps the most commercially significant announcement was the Roblox Wallet, available to eligible US creators aged 18 and older. The wallet provides daily payouts in real currency along with enhanced analytics. A linked Roblox Card is scheduled for 2027, which would give creators a physical payment card tied to their earnings.

The numbers behind the hype

Players logged 29 billion hours on the platform in the most recent quarter. Roblox operates in over 180 countries.

Since launching its Developer Exchange (DevEx) program back in 2013, Roblox says creators have collectively earned more than $5B. Of that total, roughly $1.7B was earned in the last 12 months alone.

Why the standalone app move is a big deal

The “Roblox Everywhere” initiative allows creators to distribute standalone apps, meaning a popular Roblox game could now sit on someone’s home screen next to Fortnite or Minecraft, competing on equal visual footing rather than being buried inside another app.

A standalone app can be found through app store searches, shared via direct links, and marketed independently. By allowing Chrome-based gameplay, Roblox removes the friction of downloading anything at all, which is particularly relevant in markets where device storage is limited or where app store access is restricted.

What investors should watch

The 11% stock jump reflects confidence, but it’s also a bet on execution. Roblox has announced ambitious timelines: browser play by year-end, offline play by mid-2027, a physical payment card for creators in 2027.

The Roblox Wallet and daily payout system represent a clear effort to professionalize the creator experience. When developers can see real-time revenue data and receive daily payments in actual currency rather than platform tokens, Roblox starts to look less like a game engine and more like a marketplace.
