Rubrik’s stock ripped 21% higher in a single week, pushing the data security company’s market cap north of $21.8 billion. The catalyst wasn’t a product launch or an acquisition. It was fear.
Public warnings from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei about advanced AI systems potentially enabling sophisticated cyberattacks sent a shockwave through the cybersecurity sector, lifting the entire group. Rubrik, already riding momentum from a strong earnings report, caught the updraft more than most. Shares jumped more than 15% on September 14 alone.
The numbers behind the rally
Rubrik’s fiscal Q2 2027 results, covering the period ending July 31, 2026, gave investors plenty of reasons to buy before Amodei’s warnings provided the final push. Revenue hit $427.3 million, a 38% increase compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
Subscription annual recurring revenue climbed 33% year-over-year to $1.66 billion. That number was strong enough that management raised its full-year guidance.
The stock surge also minted billionaires. CEO Bipul Sinha and cofounder Arvind Nithrakashyap each hold roughly 5% stakes now valued at approximately $1.1 billion. Former cofounder Arvind Jain, who departed the company in 2019, holds a similar position and saw the same windfall.
Why AI threats are fueling cybersecurity spending
Rubrik has positioned itself squarely at the intersection of traditional data protection and emerging AI-driven security. The company recently launched Code Guardian, a product that uses Anthropic’s Claude Mythos to enhance identity resilience and security. In other words, Rubrik is simultaneously benefiting from the fear of AI threats and deploying AI to combat them.
The company has also expanded its partnership with CrowdStrike, integrating agentic automation capabilities that allow security teams to respond to threats with less manual intervention. Additional product moves include new support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) and Apache Iceberg lakehouse protection, targeting the growing universe of cloud-native data architectures.
What this means for the cybersecurity landscape
Rubrik’s 38% revenue growth suggests it’s already capturing a meaningful share of that spending increase. The raised guidance implies the company sees that momentum continuing through the rest of fiscal year 2027.
Rubrik competes with legacy players like Commvault and Veritas, as well as newer entrants. At a market cap hovering around $22 billion, Rubrik trades at roughly 13 times its subscription ARR.
