Controversial influencer Andrew Tate, and his brother Tristian Tate, are facing a new criminal investigation in Florida, following the pair being allowed to leave Romania and arriving in the enter the state last week.
As the news spread, Daddy Tate (DADDY), a token promoted by the self-proclaimed misogynist, briefly jumped 11% to a $34 million market cap amid an otherwise quiet meme coin market. The gain was short-lived though. It has since sunk back down to $31.7 million, according to DexScreener.
The Tate brothers are facing charges of human trafficking, sexual misconduct and money laundering in Romania, with courts restricting their movement within a specific region of the country. Last week, the pair flew via private jet to Florida following pressure on the Romanian government applied by the Trump administration regarding the travel restrictions.
Within a week of landing, attorney general of Florida James Uthmeier confirmed that there was an ongoing “active criminal investigation” into the Tates because they have "publicly admitted” to “soliciting, trafficking, [and] preying upon women around the world—many of these victims coming forward, some of them minors.”
Uthmeier added on Tuesday that he had secured and executed subpoenas and warrants as part of the investigation.
In reaction to hearing that Tate was facing yet another criminal investigation, crypto degenerates pumped DADDY 11.46% to a market cap of $34 million over 32 hours, according to DEX Screener.
This comes after Andrew Tate posted multiple videos recalling how his human trafficking business worked, as well as detailing acts of sexual and physical violence—most of which he has claimed were jokes.
In late 2022, Andrew and Tristian Tate were arrested in Romania with charges of human trafficking, sexual misconduct, money laundering, and starting an organized crime group. Since then, the pair have awaited trial under travel restrictions, after they denied the charges.
Then, in 2024, Andrew went on a spree of promoting Solana meme coins, soon focusing in on one token: DADDY. Within days, the Pump.fun created token hit an all-time high market cap of $209 million. But it has fallen dramatically since then.
Now, DADDY pumps when Andrew Tate’s name becomes relevant again. When he boarded the private jet from Romania to Florida last week, DADDY pumped a mighty 78%.
This kind of price movement is impressive in the current meme coin market with most major meme coins failing to make any notable gains. Still, DADDY remains down 85% from its all-time high achieved in June of last year.
But all is not lost for DADDY investors as Tate’s name is sure to remain relevant in the coming weeks, months, and years. That’s because Tate is still facing the aforementioned charges in Romania, the new criminal investigation in Florida, as well as British charges of rape and sexual assault—not the mention a civil claim of tax evasion in the UK.
