In this article, we see how to participate in the upcoming crypto airdrop of the new Sony blockchain, Soneium, layer-2 of Ethereum.
The project team recently launched the testnet program “Soneium Minato”, hinting at possible economic rewards for the farmers.

Soneium: the new layer-2 blockchain by Sony
At the end of August, the electronics giant Sony announced the launch of its own Ethereum layer-2 blockchain, called Soneium.

Technically, it represents a zk-rollup network, built through the OP infrastructure stack and designed for maximum transaction scalability in reduced times.
In the future, it might be included within the Superchain of Optimism (which also includes Base, Zora, and OP Mainnet), but nothing is known about it yet.
At the moment, we know that among the major partners of the ecosystem there will be Astar Network, a L0 entity connected to Polkadot. The collaboration between the parties will lead to greater external interoperability with Astar ZkEVM compatibility.
Sony, in inaugurating the new blockchain, spoke of an inclusive network, favorable to cryptographic developers and content creators.
The Japanese company in its ambitious plans has not, however, mentioned the intention to reward new users with a crypto airdrop.
We do not know, in fact, for certain if Sony will offer any premi ai suoi early adopters, but given the presence of a giant of this kind, it’s better not to miss the potential of the opportunity.
As we will see in the next paragraphs, participation is free and in case of a positive outcome, the airdrop will be very interesting.
Soneium Minato: testnet initiative with possible crypto airdrop rewards
Immediately after presenting Soneium to the public, Sony launched a testnet program called “Soneium Minato”, with a possible associated airdrop .
It is not confirmed, but it is likely that those who interact with the crypto network during this period will be rewarded with the new governance token of the project.
The final goal of the launch in testnet is to offer developers and creators an environment where they can indeed test the various functionalities of the network.
The initiative allows for the collection of valuable feedback and the use of it to improve services before the official launch on the mainnet.
In this phase, anyone can come into contact with Sony’s blockchain product, developing a new resource or exploring the various applications available.
Obviously, being a trial version, Soneium does not require real funds, but only testnet tokens that can be requested for free.
This means that you can try to participate in the airdrop without risking losing funds.
The prize will certainly not be comparable to that of real farming activities, but it is still a good opportunity to seize.

How to participate in the crypto airdrop of Soneium (Sony): bridge testnet badge
Participating in the crypto airdrop of Soneium is very simple and intuitive, as long as you have basic knowledge in the field of DeFi and web3.
The first thing to do to try to earn a share of the Sony token, is to bridge test funds on the Minato testnet network.
This step is fundamental for all subsequent interactions, so do not skip it.
You can resolve this step by initially requesting ETH through the Alchemy faucet on the Ethereum Sepolia network.
However, you can only request 0.1 ETH every 72 hours. Alternatively, you can search for other faucets. From here, once you have obtained the Sepolia network tokens, we can move to the blockchain of interest. Here is the official link of the bridge.
It is recommended to repeat the operation multiple times for each address with which you are farming the crypto airdrop.
The second step is to mint the so-called “testnet badge”.
This badge ensures our presence on the list of early adopter users of the layer-2.
To obtain it, just go to the official badges.space website, select the Soneium network, enter your EVM address and click mint.
You can also choose to perform some actions first (transfer, trading on DEX) before minting the NFT to achieve a higher score.
The higher the score, the higher the probability of receiving a good airdrop.
The wallets available for connection are MetaMask, Phantom, Injected, and Wallet Connect.
Other interactions to earn the crypto airdrop
Other methods to interact with the Soneium testnet and try to earn eligibility for the crypto airdrop involve Web3 social platforms.
On layer-3, for example, a section related to Soneium Minato has been added, where users can complete tasks and obtain the distinctive badge.
The tasks are very simple, such as following social profiles, reading press releases, and small other operations.
Once the tasks are completed, we can claim the rewards (XP points + badge), then wait for further news on the official launch of the blockchain.
Recently, even Galxe, a web3 data network platform, added a page for Soneium’s layer-2, hinting at an upcoming airdrop.
Sometimes, in fact, the projects that intend to distribute a token to the community rely on Galxe to identify an initial user base.
At the moment, there do not seem to be any tasks to resolve, but they might be added shortly.
