T1’s Oner reflects on exhausting EWC and MSI performances, takes full blame for results

T1 jungler Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun isn’t interested in making excuses. After a turbulent stretch that saw the storied League of Legends organization stumble at MSI 2026 and grind through a punishing Esports World Cup schedule in Paris, Oner put the blame squarely on himself and his teammates.

Taking ownership after back-to-back disappointments

Following T1’s victory over GAM Esports at the EWC, Oner delivered a blunt self-assessment in his post-match comments.

“Our poor performance at this EWC and the previous MSI was solely due to our own lack of skill.”

MSI 2026 had been particularly rough for T1, resulting in an early exit that prompted the organization to make roster adjustments heading into the EWC. The team arrived in Paris with a lineup featuring Doran in the top lane, Oner in the jungle, the legendary Faker in mid, PEYZ as bot laner, and Keria on support.

While Oner took full responsibility for the results, he also acknowledged the EWC’s packed format as “exhausting,” though he was quick to note that every team in the competition deals with the same grind.

A deeper problem with the competitive calendar

This isn’t the first time Oner has spoken up about structural issues in competitive League of Legends. He’s previously proposed some fairly radical reforms, including eliminating MSI altogether and merging LCK splits to give teams better preparation windows between events.

Despite the challenges, T1 managed to advance through the EWC bracket and reach the semifinals in Paris.
