Team Spirit just punched their ticket to Dota 2’s biggest stage. Again.
The Russian esports organization defeated Nigma Galaxy 2-1 in the European qualifiers to claim the first of four EU slots at The International 2026, also known as TI15. The qualifying event ran from June 21 to 28, and Team Spirit’s victory ensures they’ll make their sixth consecutive appearance at the tournament that defines careers in competitive Dota 2.
For an organization that won The International in both 2021 and 2023, simply qualifying through open slots might seem like a step down. But the 2025-2026 season was rough enough that Valve didn’t extend them a direct invite.
The road through Europe’s qualifiers
The European qualifying bracket featured serious competition, including Natus Vincere and PARIVISION, competing in a unified qualifier format. The decisive series against Nigma Galaxy went the full distance, with Spirit taking it 2-1.
A key factor in Spirit’s qualifying run was a coaching change that reunited the organization with a familiar face. Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov, who previously captained Team Spirit, returned to the organization in a coaching role ahead of the June qualifiers.
What awaits in Shanghai
The International 2026 is scheduled for August 13 to 23 in Shanghai, China. The tournament will feature 16 teams competing for a prize pool of $1.6 million.
The global qualifier picture is starting to take shape beyond Europe as well. Early qualifiers from other regions include Team Resilience and Vici Gaming from China, LGD Gaming from South America, and OG from Southeast Asia.
