Tesla ramps up production in Germany, plans to supply over 30 markets from Berlin factory

Tesla is pushing the accelerator on its Berlin-area factory, targeting a significant production boost that would see its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg churning out 7,500 Model Y vehicles per week by October 2026. That’s a 20% increase from recent output levels, and it comes with a hiring spree that signals the company isn’t just tweaking the dials, it’s expanding the whole operation.

The Grünheide facility, which has historically operated below its installed capacity of over 375,000 Model Y units annually, appears to be entering a new phase. Tesla plans to supply more than 30 markets from the German plant.

The production math

Tesla ramped production at the Berlin factory to roughly 6,200 vehicles per week in July 2026. The new target of 7,500 weekly units by October represents another meaningful step up.

Tesla’s German subsidiary released its 2025 annual report in mid-July 2026, and the document reportedly framed the production increase as a response to improving demand and profitability.

The company is also investing in battery cell production at the site, with plans to scale annual capacity to somewhere between 8 and 18 GWh.

Thousands of new jobs

Tesla announced plans to hire an additional 1,000 employees in June 2026, following a previous recruitment push that brought on roughly 1,000 new workers in April 2026. All told, about 3,500 new positions have been created as part of this expansion, spanning manufacturing roles and battery production.

Why this matters beyond Tesla

Serving over 30 markets from a single European factory means Tesla is positioning Grünheide not just as a German operation but as a regional export hub. That has implications for logistics, supply chain strategy, and how Tesla competes with European automakers like Volkswagen and Stellantis on their home turf.

The risk, as always, is execution. Tesla’s historical output at the Berlin factory has often fallen short of capacity, and some longer-term expansion plans at the site have reportedly faced temporary freezes depending on market conditions.
