The Senate of Texas will hold a public hearing to discuss the creation of a state reserve in Bitcoin. However, according to analysts, without an immediate investment plan, the move could have a limited impact on the markets.
Let’s see all the details in this article.
Texas: the decisions of the Federal Reserve on the reserve remain the main factor influencing the trajectory of Bitcoin
Texas is preparing to discuss the creation of a strategic reserve in Bitcoin, a decision that could represent a further step towards the institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies.
However, industry experts believe that the initiative, although significant, might have only a symbolic impact if not accompanied by a concrete investment plan.
On February 18, the Texas Senate will hold a session to evaluate the possibility of creating a state reserve of Bitcoin. The proposal, contained in bill SB21, was recently submitted to the Secretary of the Senate and is now the subject of public debate.
The objective of the hearing is to explore the potential economic and financial implications of such an initiative. Specifically, analyzing the benefits and risks associated with the adoption of Bitcoin as a store of value.
According to market analysts, the decision of Texas could mark an important evolution in the institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies. However, without a clear commitment to the immediate purchase of Bitcoin, the market could react in a contained manner.
Iliya Kalchev, analyst at Nexo, emphasizes in this regard how the decision of Texas represents another step in the legitimization of Bitcoin as a reserve asset.
However, he believes that initiatives of this kind have a limited impact compared to developments of a broader scope, such as the approval of Bitcoin ETFs or the decisions of large companies to allocate resources in criptovalute:
“The interest of Texas in Bitcoin is a positive signal, but unless a short-term purchase plan is announced, the market will not respond significantly.”
In fact, Texas has already stood out for its favorable position towards cryptocurrencies, with regulations that encourage the blockchain industry and a tax environment advantageous for companies in the sector.
However, the hearing alone is not enough to generate a substantial change in the bull market of Bitcoin.
The role of the Federal Reserve and global tensions
While the initiative in Texas is a positive signal for the growing institutional acceptance of cryptocurrencies, experts agree that the true determining factor for the trajectory of Bitcoin remains the monetary policy of the United States Federal Reserve.
In recent months, Bitcoin has been influenced by interest rate expectations and the Fed’s decisions. If the central bank maintains a restrictive policy, the attractiveness of Bitcoin as a store of value could decrease in the short term.
On the contrary, a loosening of monetary policy could favor a greater demand for alternative assets such as cryptocurrencies.
Vugar Usi Zade, chief operating officer of Bitget, also highlights how geopolitical tensions, particularly the trade relations between the United States and China, can have a significant impact on the markets:
“The global economic uncertainties continue to weigh on Bitcoin. If the United States maintains a rigid stance towards China and introduces new tariffs, the volatility could increase.”
In any case, Texas is not the only state considering a Bitcoin reserve. Kentucky is also evaluating similar legislation, with a proposal that includes allocating up to 10% of the state’s excess reserves in digital assets.
This trend reflects a growing interest from American states in Bitcoin as a possible alternative store of value.
If more states follow this direction and adopt concrete investment strategies, the impact on the market could become more significant.
However, as long as these initiatives remain at a theoretical level, the cryptocurrency market will continue to be driven by broader macroeconomic factors, such as the Federal Reserve’s policy and global adoption.
