Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have agreed on a deal worth £75 million for Brazilian winger Savinho, with potential add-ons pushing the total package to £85 million. The 22-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in London before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract with Spurs.
A transfer that took two windows to get done
This deal didn’t come together overnight. Tottenham first made their interest known in 2025, submitting bids in the range of £60-70 million. City rejected those approaches, holding firm on a higher valuation despite Savinho’s limited role in the first team.
What changed was Savinho himself. After a season spent largely watching from the bench, the winger made it clear he wanted out.
The £75 million base fee represents a significant markup from what City originally paid for the Brazilian. They signed him from Troyes for approximately £31-34 million in July 2024. If the deal goes through as structured, it could register as Manchester City’s highest-ever outgoing transfer.
De Zerbi’s Tottenham rebuild picks up speed
For Tottenham, this signing represents the centerpiece of what has been a significant squad overhaul under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Savinho managed just seven Premier League starts last season, with his minutes dwindling under varying managerial strategies at City.
City’s post-Guardiola reshaping continues
On the other side of this deal, Manchester City’s willingness to sell Savinho reflects a broader squad restructuring in the post-Pep Guardiola era. The club is reportedly open to further departures this window, with forward Omar Marmoush among those who could follow Savinho out the door.
Banking £75 million (potentially £85 million with add-ons) for a player who wasn’t starting regularly frees up both wages and roster flexibility. The comparison to Julian Alvarez’s departure is instructive, with City having shown a pattern of letting talented players leave when the price is right.
