TradFi perps double Binance’s BTCUSDT volume as the product category explodes 117x in a year

A year ago, trading perpetual contracts on gold, SanDisk, or the S&P 500 via a crypto exchange was a niche curiosity. Today, TradFi perps collectively generate more than twice the monthly volume of Binance’s own BTCUSDT perpetual contract, arguably the most liquid crypto derivatives product ever built.

From rounding error to $393 billion

Binance launched its first TradFi perpetual contracts in January 2026, starting with gold and silver. Monthly volume across major centralized exchanges at that point sat somewhere between $3.3B and $3.5B. By June 2026, that figure had climbed to roughly $387B-$393B. The math works out to approximately 117 times growth in six months.

Perps, as a format, now account for about 98.5% of all TradFi trading activity on major crypto exchanges.

Binance captured more than 58% of the overall TradFi perp market in June, and its dominance is even sharper in specific sub-categories. In the ETF perp segment alone, Binance holds a 74% share, with cumulative volume reaching approximately $116B as of July 2026. For equity-linked perps, the exchange captured roughly 76% of volume in July, with weekly stock perp volume up around 79 times since January.

The products traders are actually using

As of mid-August 2026, 10 of Binance’s 15 highest-volume perpetual contracts were TradFi-linked products. The top of that list belongs to SANDUSDT, a contract tracking SanDisk, which was printing roughly $6.87B in daily trading volume. That figure represents about 22% of the underlying stock’s activity on Nasdaq itself.

TradFi perps overall represented 37% of Binance’s total perpetual contract volume in August 2026, which was 6 percentage points above the industry average across other exchanges.

Binance now lists more than 146 TradFi pairs, spanning individual equities, ETFs, and commodity-linked products.
