With the inauguration of Trump as the new President of the United States approaching, various rumors are starting to circulate in the crypto field. On one hand, there is talk of a new probable head of the CFTC who is favorable to cryptocurrencies, and on the other, that the Senate Banking Committee is launching a subcommittee on digital assets.
Trump and the rumors of the new CFTC head favorable to crypto
With the inauguration of the new President of the United States, pro-crypto Donald Trump, several rumors are starting to circulate regarding cryptocurrencies as well.
Among others, one rumor in particular concerns the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), identifying the current commissioner Summer Mersinger as the top contender for the chairmanship.
Mersinger has sparked interest for her ties with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, for whom she was an aide from 2004 to 2016. Mersinger’s appointment could help Trump stay in the good graces of Thune.
Not only that, Mersinger appears to be in favor of crypto after having, in the past, as a CFTC commissioner, voted against enforcement actions deemed excessive or unfair. She expressed her dissent on the fine imposed by the CFTC on Uniswap for the illegal trading of digital asset derivatives, criticizing the agency for not having clarified DeFi protocols beforehand.
Furthermore, in the past year, the commissioner has participated in several conferences on cryptocurrencies, including Consensus, DACOM and, more recently, the Blockchain Association Policy Summit.
In general, the CFTC supervises the commodity markets, while the SEC supervises the securities. However, previous iterations of a bill on the cryptocurrency market structure have made the CFTC the main regulator of cryptocurrencies.
Trump and the rumors in the USA: a new subcommittee dedicated to crypto
Another significant rumor concerns the launch of a new subcommittee completely dedicated to crypto.
In practice, it seems that the Senate Banking Committee, with its current Chairman Tom Scott, will soon announce the creation of this new commission.
The Senate Banking Committee oversees the banks and financial regulatory authorities such as the SEC and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
The rumor continues to assert that the appointment of President of this subcommittee for crypto will be the Republican senator from Wyoming, Cynthia Lummis, famous supporter of BTC.
The NFT collection on Bitcoin with Ordinals protocol
These days, there is a lot of talk about the new NFT collection launched by Donald Trump on the Bitcoin network, through the Ordinals protocol.
The new Trumo collection includes 160 NFT of digital collectible cards, created following the parent-child format as Ordinals requires.
These would be the first unique official Bitcoin Ordinals created by Trump Digital Trading Cards. These NFTs are inscribed on Alpha sat, one of the purest and rarest versions of satoshis, adding an additional level of exclusivity to the project.
